Privacy Policy
What TikTalk stores, why we store it, who can see it and how to remove it.
TikTalk is operated from Northern Ireland and handles personal data under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Last updated: August 2026.
1. Account information
When you sign up we store your username (and a lower-case form of it for duplicate checks), a securely hashed password, your sign-up and last-activity timestamps, and — only if you choose to provide one — a recovery email address. The recovery email is private, never shown on your profile, and used only for password recovery.
We do not require your real name, phone number, date of birth or location. We do not ask for identity documents.
2. Profile information
Anything you add to your profile is stored and shown publicly: display name, bio, avatar image, cover image, and your public activity (discussions, replies and reactions). Your role badge (Admin or Moderator) is public. Your TikTalk+ status is not shown as a public badge.
3. Content you post
We store, and show publicly:
- Forum discussions and replies, including their edit and deletion state
- Images and videos you upload to discussions and replies
- Live Community Chat messages, reactions and pins
- Reactions, view counts and discussion activity used for trending feeds
We also store items that are private to you: saved discussions, watched discussions, notification preferences, notifications and your blocked-user list.
4. Private messages
Private messages are stored in our database along with read status, so conversations persist between sessions. They are not encrypted end-to-end. They are visible to you and the recipient; staff can access them only where necessary for a moderation, safety or legal reason.
5. Reports and moderation records
When you report content or a member we store the report, the reason, any details you add, and a reference to the reported content and the accounts involved. We also store moderation records: warnings, suspensions, bans and a log of staff actions. These records are visible to staff only and are retained so moderation decisions can be reviewed.
Support tickets you submit through the Support Centre are stored with your message and account reference and are visible to staff only.
6. Technical and security information
To protect the site from spam and abuse we store security event records and, at sign-up, a hashed (non-reversible) form of your IP address used purely for rate-limiting and abuse prevention. We also keep account-restriction records used to block abusive sign-ups. This information is visible to admins only.
7. Payments and TikTalk+
TikTalk+ is a £2 one-off payment — not a subscription — that unlocks TikTalk+ permanently on your account under the current product setup.
Payments are processed by Stripe. Card numbers and payment details are entered directly into Stripe's checkout and are never seen or stored by TikTalk. We store only the record needed to grant your unlock: your account reference, the Stripe session/payment identifiers, the amount, and your entitlement status. Stripe processes your payment data as its own controller under its privacy policy.
8. What we do not do
We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising or tracking technologies. We do not build advertising profiles or track you across other websites.
9. Legal bases and retention
We process account and content data to provide the service you asked for (contract), moderation and security data for our legitimate interest in keeping the community safe, and payment records to fulfil your TikTalk+ purchase and meet record-keeping obligations.
Content stays on the site until you or a moderator removes it. When you delete your account, sign-in is disabled and your public identity is anonymised to “Deleted Member”. Some content and moderation records may be retained where necessary for community integrity, moderation history, safety or legal reasons.
10. Your rights
You can access and correct most of your data directly in Account Settings, and delete your account there. You also have the right to request a copy of your data, restriction or objection, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). To make a request, use Contact Support.
